Yes We Can

From the title "Yes We Can", you are probably thinking this blog is referring to the Obama campaign. Actually, it is referring to a group of dedicated people that want to see an end to Pancreas Cancer.

Headed up by Marnie Reed, the volunteers of the Palm Beach chapter of Pancan are now involved in helping put an end to the dreadful disease called Pancreas Cancer. Although this is one daunting task, these exceptional people are not going to stop until they see real results.

To participate in one of their meetings is quite a unique experience. Unlike other charity crowds, this faction is prepared and ready for action. It all begins with mapping out various categories of raising funds, education, advocacy, awareness, branding and so much more. Each person in this group has either been personally affected, has a family member or friend that suffers from the disease and is now arranging to make their personal contribution.

For example, a one of a kind golf tourney is being planned for the end of May in Palm Beach. Details on this event will be posted in the next blog. Although this group has only a little more than 3 months to put the entire thing together, they are convinced that it will be an event that will people will remember and want to be part of.

Pancreas Cancer has come a long way over the past 20 years. How can I make such a bold statement. All you have to do is speak to some of our participating volunteers who have slayed this monster and are now almost three years surviving. What? Yes, you read that correctly.

Just recently Patrick Swayze was interviewed on TV by the legendary Barbara Walters. One can only watch in awe with his level of determination in wanting to live. For Patrick, no matter how difficult the fight, he is planning on doing whatever it takes to enjoy every day of life and not give in.

Allow me to share a personal experience regarding my recently deceased father. Close friends and family would eventually admit that when I told them my dad had Pancreas Cancer, immediate death was their first mental thought. If everyone continues to perpetuate this incorrect thinking, we as a collection will add an extra weight to fight this disease.

I am looking forward to hearing from people that would like to help and share their personal stories. And please remember at all times, Yes We Can.
